The workshop

All our tanks are handmade using time honoured techniques – All separate components  are  hand formed from 1.5mm thick sheet aluminium (2mm in the case of oiltanks), then rolled into shape on the English wheel before being  Oxy acetylene welded as the original alloy tanks were. Then its  back on the wheel for many more hours rolling until the tank takes shape, then its ground and linished and finally painstakingly polished to give a mirror finish.

Because the tanks are hand made it means that no two tanks we make are actually the same, making each and every TAB tank unique.

Hand forming

The 1.5mm aluminium sheet is initially hand formed.

The English wheel

The English wheel

The individual panels are rolled into shape using the traditional English wheel.

Out acetylene welding

Oxy acetylene welding

The panels are then welded together using oxygen acetylene.

More rolling on the English wheel

Once welded, the tanks are rolled once again using the English wheel. This is highly skilled work and can take many hours for each tank.

Dirty work for a clean finish

The tanks are ground and linished, then undergo several polishes in the polishing room. This is noisy, dirty and exhausting work, but it is vital for the stunning mirror finish.

The finished product

After many hours of painstaking work, the finished product is a unique piece of work.
